Races in Killarney – May/ July /August
Killarney Racecourse is without doubt Ireland’s, and possibly the World’s, Most Scenic Racecourse. With the magnificent McGuillycuddy Reeks, Lakes of Killarney and Ross Castle providing the backdrop, the view as the horses pass the finishing line can only be described as breathtaking.
Each year Killarney hosts 11 days of racing split over three Summer Festivals. The three day May meeting opens the season and the season builds towards the four day July meeting. This festival is one of the highlights on Ireland’s social calendars and is one of the best days out during the summer season. Our racing season closes with the August four day meeting; this meeting marks the beginning of the National Hunt season proper with many of Ireland’s top National Hunt horses reappearing during our four day festival.
Killarney Racecourse combines the very best of horse racing with a fantastic festival atmosphere so that all race goers enjoy the very best social and sporting experience.
May Racing Festival Sunday 15th May to Tuesday 17th (Monday and Tuesday are evening meetings)
Sunday is LánagClub… up to five local G.A.A. Clubs take part in a free-taking competition during and after racing, competing to win a generous prize fund for their respective Club.
The first race on Sunday the 15th May is at 2p.m. approx. with the feature race of the day being The Grade B Ladbrokes.com Handicap Hurdle with a prize fund of €50,000.
Monday the 16th May sees the running of the “Killarney National”. This race promises to be a great spectacle with all the usual thrills and spills of a National and Killarney Racecourse is delighted to boast a €30,000 prize fund for the race. First Race will be at 5p.m. approx.
Tuesday offers a great evening’s racing with the first race going to post at approx. 5p.m.
July Racing Festival Monday 11th – Thursday 14th, 2015
Killarney’s July Racing Festival is the centre piece of Killarney’s Racing Calendar and has a mix of both national hunt and flat racing. The Festival kicks off on Monday 11th of July for four days. Monday to Wednesday are evening meetings and Thursday is an afternoon meeting and features the prestigious Queen of Fashion Ladies Day.
Family evening gets the festival started on Monday; the dedicated Kids zone has lots on offer for children of all ages, including bouncy castles, stilt walkers magic and puppet shows.
Tuesday & Wednesday evenings feature great racing with first race on both evenings off at 5.30p.m. approx.
Killarney’s Ladies Day is the highlight of the July Festival, and is one of the most prestigious Ladies Day on the Racing Calendar. The first race on Thursday card is off at approx. 2pm however early attendance is advisable given the popularity of the day.
August Racing 17th to 20th
Killarney’s Autumn Racing Festival runs from Wednesday 17th to Saturday 20th of August. The Festival features 29 races over the four days, there is an impressive prize fund of over €400,000 on offer which is sure to attract runners from Ireland and UK’s top stables.
The first three days of racing are all evening meetings, Wednesday 17th of August features the Vincent O’ Brien Ruby Stakes with a prize fund of €40,000. Thursday evening 18th of August is a mixed race card and Friday evening is a National Hunt Card.
Killarney Racecourse’s Ladies Days have a long association with style and elegance; Saturday 20th of August will see Killarney Racecourse host its Ladies Day. Ladies will be out to impress Judges to win a fabulous prize and coveted title of Best Dressed Lady.
